In my first post for this blog, I thought it would be useful to explain exactly what a caricature artists does.

In a nutshell, caricature artists create exaggerated portraits of people (and occasionally other things).

Emphasis is usually placed on the subject’s face with the head of the caricature being much larger and disproportionate to the body and the background.

In addition, certain facial features will be warped and distorted in the caricature; for example, someone with a slightly larger-than-average chin in real-life may have chin extended to impossible lengths in their caricature.

Caricature artists work in many different environments from large shopping malls to small village fetes and they will offer to draw a caricature for you to keep for just a few quid.

They can also be hired for special occasions such as birthday parties, where they will draw caricatures of the guests for the entertainment (and occasionally shock) of the party-goers.

You can also purchase personalised caricatures of your loved-ones online, where the caricature artists will turn your photographs into caricatures.
